Residents of Latvia donated more than 500 kilograms of knitted items to Ukrainian soldiers this winter

Residents of Latvia have prepared more than 500 kilograms of knitted items for Ukrainian soldiers as part of a charity campaign organized by the charity organizations “Tavi draugi” and “Latvijas Pasts” during the cold season of 2025/2026.

Continuing to support Ukraine’s freedom fighters, “Tavi draugi,” together with “Latvijas Pasts,” carried out the campaign for the sixth time last autumn and winter, inviting residents of Latvia to provide and donate knitted items – socks, gloves, hats, scarves, and more. Since the end of October last year, more than 500 kilograms of knitted goods have been delivered to the “Tavi draugi” organization, most of them via “Latvijas Pasts” customer centers, service points, and parcel lockers, which were available to campaign participants free of charge.

Ulvis Noviks, head of the “Tavi draugi” organization: “Together with ‘Latvijas Pasts,’ we have completed the sixth knitting campaign. We are grateful to the people of Latvia for their unwavering support – every pair of socks prepared carries care, warmth of heart, and kind thoughts knitted into every stitch. During this particularly harsh winter, we received shipments from knitters all across Latvia every week and promptly delivered them to Ukraine, where they were very useful for keeping warm and maintaining morale.”

In total, since the beginning of the war, approximately 15,000 kilograms of knitted items from Latvian residents have been delivered to Ukraine through the campaign. “It is important for us to support Ukraine, and we gladly do so in various ways – whether through postage stamps that tell the world about Ukrainian courage, or warm knitted items that embody the goodwill of our people for Ukraine’s strength. We are pleased that these thousands of kilograms, using the postal infrastructure, quickly and conveniently entered Ukraine’s support logistics chain and reached the soldiers,” says Ģirts Rudzītis, Chairman of the Board of SJSC “Latvijas Pasts.
