There is a family near Bauska that is a true embodiment of strength and joy of living, despite the difficulties they face every day.
The family has four children, two of them have severe diagnoses: speech and movement disorders, a brain anomaly and kidney problems, just to name a few of the diagnoses on the family’s list of concerns. At this stage, mother is the head of the family and sole breadwinner, she is responsible for everything: childcare, daily needs, and daily living, taking the children to/from rehabilitation classes and doctors’ appointments.
Every day, the family travels 130-160 km, because their rehabilitation doctors, specialist consultations, physiotherapy treatments are all in Riga. Mum also tries her best to ensure a normal everyday life for the older children by taking them to hobby groups and training sessions. As the family’s home is almost in the middle of the forest, the distance to be covered by dirt roads (we know they are often impassable) is unavoidable. Therefore, their car, having served them well all these years, has reached its limits.
The family came to the attention of Tavi Draugi by chance, basically by happy coincidence. Initially, there was a request to change the oil in the car, an everyday issue and simple little thing that the mother simply did not have the time, energy, and opportunity to do. Mum arrived at Ventspils iela on her way home from a routine doctor’s appointment at BKUS, the Children’s University Hospital. Inspecting the car, we quickly realised that its technical condition was hopeless and the only thing we could do was to say goodbye to a vehicle that was now not only in a bad technical condition, but also a danger to the safety of the driver and passengers themselves.
What next? It is practically impossible to cover such distances by bus 5 times a week, so we agreed that we would try to get the family a new (used) and safe car in a good technical condition. We believe it can be done together, and we kindly ask you to help us help them!
