“Sunflower Way” March to Mark Ukraine’s Independence Day on Monday

The charity organization “Tavi draugi”, together with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, invites everyone to the annual “Sunflower Way” solidarity march on Monday, August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day. The march will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a gathering at the Freedom Monument and, after 6:00 p.m., will proceed to Kronvalda Park, where it will conclude with the laying of flowers at the monument to Taras Shevchenko.
The “Tavi draugi” charity is organizing the “Sunflower Way” march for the fifth time, expressing support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Participants are invited to bring sunflowers and to use Ukrainian and Latvian symbols.
“‘Sunflower Way’ is a tradition that demonstrates the strong position and support for Ukraine among the people of Latvia. Every sunflower, every Ukrainian flag and every good wish strengthens and motivates us not to stop until victory. That is why we cannot stand on the sidelines,” says Ulvis Noviks, head of “Tavi draugi”.
In addition to the march, throughout the day, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., “Tavi draugi” will operate a Ukrainian souvenirs and donation collection point at Brīvības Square. Residents are invited to donate items needed by Ukrainian soldiers and civilians: tea, 3-in-1 coffee, sweets, nuts and dried fruit, ready-to-eat meals, canned meat and fish, hygiene products, and men’s clothing for soldiers (socks, underwear, T-shirts and tracksuits).
