Exhibition “From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine” on display in Talsi

Residents of Talsi and visitors to the city are warmly invited until March 31 to visit the travelling exhibition “From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine” by the charity association “Tavi draugi” at the Talsi Main Library, Brīvības Street 17A. The exhibition looks back at four years since the people of Latvia united in a common network to help Ukraine. The history of contemporary heartfelt efforts is captured in photo and video moments, as well as in unique camouflage net artworks and paintings. The exhibition also features special Ukrainian protective dolls – motankas.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the charity association “Tavi draugi” has been providing daily assistance and support to Ukrainian civilians, the army, and Ukrainians who have found refuge in Latvia. Alongside its daily work, the association continuously seeks new and creative ways to engage the people of Latvia and to promote a culture of donations and volunteering in our society.
“The idea of the exhibition ‘From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine’ is to showcase what has been accomplished together over four years of war, through photographs taken by our volunteers and Krauzevision photographer Agnese Krauze, as well as through camouflage net paintings created by well-known supporters of Ukraine. We are also pleased to introduce the residents of Talsi to motankas – traditional Ukrainian protective dolls – and paintings by the author Inna, a paramedic. In her daily life, she saves the lives of Ukrainian soldiers on the front line, and in her rare free moments she turns to handicrafts and painting. The aim of the exhibition is to thank the people of Latvia for their support and to show that by putting one heartfelt deed next to another, we are a great force and significant support for Ukraine,” says Laura Čaupale, representative of the association “Tavi draugi” and curator of the exhibition.
Rita Alkšbirze, Director of the Talsi Main Library, emphasizes: “‘From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine’ is a special exhibition that testifies not only to the cultural values of Ukraine, but also to the openness of the people of Latvia to provide help in difficult times to those who need it most. We thank the association ‘Tavi draugi’ for the opportunity to show, at the Talsi Main Library, even a small part of Ukraine’s cultural traditions that must not be lost for even a moment. We invite visitors to reflect on how valuable it is to live in peace, which depends on our own attitude and actions, and how important it is to remain open to helping and supporting those who need it most.”
The exhibition “From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine” can be viewed free of charge during the opening hours of the Talsi Main Library: on weekdays from 10:00 to 19:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00.
After its stay in Talsi, the exhibition will travel on to Baltinava, Zeltiņi, Cesvaine, Engure and other locations in Latvia.
