Exhibition “From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine” on View in Cesvaine

In April, the Cesvaine Tourism Centre hosts the traveling exhibition “From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine,” organized by the charity association “Tavi draugi.” The exhibition looks back on four years since the people of Latvia came together in a united network to support Ukraine. The history of these heartfelt efforts is captured through photographs and video moments, as well as unique artworks made from camouflage nets and paintings. Visitors can also see special Ukrainian protective dolls – motankas.
At the closing of the exhibition on May 1, everyone is warmly invited to attend a workshop on making Ukrainian protective dolls – motankas, held at both 11:00 and 13:00. Together with craftswomen from Ukraine, participants will learn more about the centuries-old tradition of doll-making and acquire the special techniques used to create motankas. Participation in the workshop is donation-based.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the charity association “Tavi draugi” has been providing daily assistance and support to Ukrainian civilians, the army, and Ukrainians who have found refuge in Latvia. Alongside its daily work, the organization continuously seeks new and creative ways to engage people in Latvia and promote a culture of donations and volunteering in society.
“The idea of the exhibition ‘From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine’ is to showcase what has been achieved together over four years of war through the work of our volunteers, photographs by Krauzevision photographer Agnese Krauze, and paintings created from camouflage nets by well-known supporters of Ukraine. We are also pleased to introduce Cesvaine residents to motankas – traditional Ukrainian protective dolls – and paintings by Inna, a paramedic who saves the lives of Ukrainian soldiers at the front and dedicates her rare free time to handicrafts and painting. The aim of the exhibition is to thank the people of Latvia for their support and to show that by combining heartfelt efforts, we become a powerful force and a significant support for Ukraine,” says Laura Čaupale, representative of “Tavi draugi” and curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition “From Heart to Heart – Latvia for Ukraine” is free of charge and can be visited at the Cesvaine Tourism Centre, Pils Street 2, from Tuesday to Friday between 10:00 and 17:00, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00.
After its stay in Cesvaine, the exhibition will travel on to Zeltiņi, Engure, and other locations across Latvia.
