Invitation to “Studio Lokomotīve” Children’s Charity Film Screenings
Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Studio Lokomotīve, charity film screenings for children and young people will take place at the cinema K. Suns from November 15 to 21. The screenings will feature the latest films by the legendary Latvian animation pioneer Roze Stiebra, animated shorts by Nils Skapāns for the youngest viewers, and the colorful adventure film Christmas in the Jungle.
Proceeds from ticket sales for the Studio Lokomotīve – 30! children’s and youth screenings will be donated to the charity organization Tavi draugi (“Your Friends”) to support Latvian families in need. Moreover, children from these families will be able to attend all charity screenings free of charge. The audience will also include children and young people from crisis centers, special schools, orphanages, and care institutions that cooperate with Tavi draugi.
Charity Screening Program
- November 15, 12:00 PM – Animated films for children by Nils Skapāns: The Cat in the Bag (2013), Ghost Hour (2014), The Martian (2015), and Our Granny Rocks (2017).
- November 16, 12:00 PM – Animated film The Sun Rides Up to the Sky (2018) by director Roze Stiebra.
- November 17, 12:00 PM – The colorful adventure film Christmas in the Jungle (2020) by director Jaak Kilmi, followed by a meeting with the film’s creative team.
- November 21, 6:30 PM – The film Law of the Heart (2024) by Roze Stiebra, with a meeting with the film’s artist Aleksejs Naumovs.
Studio Lokomotīve holds the record for Latvia’s National Film Award Lielais Kristaps – its films have been nominated 72 times and have won 34 awards, possibly the highest number for any single studio. Co-productions made by the studio have also received several Lithuanian and Estonian national film awards. Three of its films (produced or co-produced) have been submitted as national entries for the Academy Awards (Oscars) from Latvia and Lithuania. In the past two decades, nearly all of the studio’s films have premiered at prestigious A-class film festivals. Altogether, Studio Lokomotīve films have traveled the world, participating in over 520 festivals across Europe, Canada, the USA, Mexico, and countries in South America and Asia. The featured adventure film Christmas in the Jungle is the only Latvian feature film entirely shot outside Latvia – in Indonesia.
