An Invitation to an Evening with American Author William Burton McCormick

The charity organization Tavi draugi invites you to an evening with American author William Burton McCormick, who resides in Latvia. The event will take place on September 16 at 6:30 PM at the charity’s shop located at Ģertrūdes Street 32, Riga. During the evening, William Burton McCormick will present his work, answer questions, and sign copies of his award-winning historical novels and thrillers. Admission is free, and the event will be held in English.

This autumn, Tavi draugi is launching a new tradition — author evenings, which will feature writers from various genres. Proceeds from book sales will support charitable projects helping people in Ukraine and Latvia.

William Burton McCormick is a world traveler who has spent twenty years living in Ukraine, Latvia, Russia, Estonia, and the United Kingdom. He draws on personal experiences in his writing to educate and entertain readers worldwide. McCormick will share his journey from being an unpublished writer in the United States to becoming an internationally recognized author, nominated for both the Edgar Allan Poe and Dagger awards, with his work regularly featured in major global mystery and literary publications. He will also talk about his passion for telling the world about Latvia’s 20th-century history, which is reflected in his first book published in Latvian — “Lenin’s Harem” (publisher: Zvaigzne ABC).

During the event, all of McCormick’s books will be available for purchase in English — A Stranger from the Storm, KGB Banker, and Deeds of Darkness — as well as Lenin’s Harem in Latvian. All proceeds from book sales will be donated to Tavi draugi‘s charity projects supporting Ukrainians in their homeland and in Latvia.

The evening will be hosted by writer and Tavi draugi volunteer Jānis Joņevs, and the event will be conducted in English. The author evening series will continue in October with an evening dedicated to Jānis Joņevs himself. You can register for the event here.

The Tavi draugi charity shop serves as a platform for turning material donations into financial aid to support various charitable projects aimed at helping Ukrainians affected by the war, as well as Latvian residents in crisis situations.

The shop offers clothing, shoes, accessories for adults and children, dishware, books, home décor, artwork, and souvenirs from Latvia and Ukraine. It also regularly hosts educational events and themed evenings to attract donations and strengthen community ties.

Media representatives are warmly invited to attend the evening with William Burton McCormick. Please confirm your attendance by emailing [email protected] or calling +371 29337759.
